Dr. Tere Dickson

Dr. Tere Dickson
Dr. Tere Dickson is a pediatrician and preventive medicine specialist focused on the elimination of racial health disparities. Through her experience as a pediatrician, she witnessed the irregularities in medical outcomes for minority populations and the barriers to care and achievement of wellness faced by immigrant and minority groups. Her desire to change this imbalance prompted her to expand her work as a pediatrician and look towards changing the medical system and educating minority populations through the arm of public health.

Dr. Dickson was born and raised in the Washington, DC metropolitan area where she attended high school at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School and college at University of Maryland, College Park. She received her medical degree from University of Maryland School of Medicine at Baltimore. Dr. Dickson trained and served as a Clinical Assistant Instructor in the Department of Pediatrics at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. After her pediatric residency training, she served as a temporary pediatrician filling gaps in service at practices in Ft Belvoir, Virginia, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Roswell, New Mexico, and South Norwalk, Connecticut. In 2008, she graduated from SUNY Stony Brook's Preventive Medicine Residency training program and obtained her Masters of Public Health Degree from Columbia University. During her training at Stony Brook, she worked as an intern with New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and ABC News Medical Unit in Boston, Massachusetts where she published two articles, "Waking During Surgery: Monitors May Not Help", and "Massage or Massacre: Spa Injuries Expose". Under former Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi, she served as the youngest appointed Deputy Health Commissioner to lead the development of programs and policies improving the health of minority communities. Currently, she has joined MS Family Medicine as Director of Pediatrics, contributes to First Things First, Foundation For Health and Wellness, Inc, and is developing a consulting firm, Essential Partners for Health Promotion, assisting agencies with health promotions activities towards greater health equity and health justice.
